I am an award-winning, qualified mathematics teacher and subject specialist with a Masters in Mathematics from the University of Warwick and a MicroMasters from MIT in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy. Before dedicating myself to full-time private tuition, I taught at Eton College and Cambridge Education Group, and served as a teaching assistant for Nobel Laureates at MIT.

With extensive global experience, I have taught hundreds of students from over 60 countries. My expertise spans a wide range of curricula, age groups, and student needs—from young learners to university-level students, including those struggling with the basics, to contenders in national competitions, and everything in between.

Teaching, for me, transcends the mere transmission of knowledge; it’s about sparking a lasting enthusiasm for mathematics and broader scholarly endeavours. In addition to improving understanding, confidence, and passion for mathematics, I imbue students with qualities that extend well beyond their mathematics education. This includes enhancing their ability to think critically, reason abstractly, articulate thoughts concisely, develop sharp analytical skills, and apply knowledge across various contexts.

My dedication to teaching has earned me numerous awards, including being named a Scholar at the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications. I have twice received the MIT Teaching Certificate of Excellence for my role as a teaching assistant for Nobel Prize winners Professor Esther Duflo and Professor Abhijit Banerjee, and Dr. Rachel Glennerster, former Chief Economist for the FCDO.

Beyond tutoring, I offer specialised consulting services for school and university admissions. I also provide a mentoring programme for a handful of students. My approach is comprehensive, helping to prepare students for success in school, university, and beyond.

My track record speaks for itself: all of my students have achieved or surpassed their target grades, with some advancing by up to five grades. They regularly gain admission and scholarships to the world’s most prestigious schools and universities, and many have won accolades for their outstanding achievements, including securing top positions in national mathematics competitions. This commitment to excellence is reflected in the unanimous 5-star reviews I have received across tutoring platforms, with most of my clientele coming from referrals by previous clients and esteemed educational professionals.

Beyond education, my interests in policy design, economics, and technology drive my contributions to ventures aimed at creating a positive social impact. Outside of my professional pursuits, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, sports, and travelling.

Tutoring Approach

My teaching approach centres on the idea that many students struggle with maths due to gaps in foundational understanding, often overlooked in traditional educational settings. Unfortunately, students don’t always seek guidance as some of these topics are wrongly perceived as 'simple', or teachers might not be sufficiently equipped to explain them thoroughly. I see this issue across all ages and levels of attainment. In maths, concepts build upon one another, so at some stage, this lack of understanding catches up with students and forms a barrier to their learning.

To address this, I start by assessing and reinforcing students' foundational understanding. Once this solid base is established, we can scaffold knowledge, delving deeper into complex topics and looking at them in a more thorough and enriching way. Finally, at the top end, the focus shifts to one of deep exploration, challenging problem-solving, and honing exam strategies.

Consistent across all learning journeys is my emphasis on true comprehension over mere memorisation. This approach encourages students to explore the 'why' behind mathematical concepts— the essence of genuine understanding and the spark for a profound appreciation of the subject. Additionally, I ensure students not only grasp mathematical ideas at their core but also excel in expressing this understanding in exams, where my experience as an examiner has proved to be invaluable.

For most of the lesson, students will be solving problems, each problem presenting a different piece of the puzzle, until they reach that “aha” moment where they have mastered the concept. By asking a series of well thought out questions, rather than lecturing, I help students discover for themselves underlying misunderstandings that they may have and address them. With over a decade in education, I've refined my lesson structures to strike a balance between flexibility, which caters to unique student needs, and maintaining a coherent learning arc. My research, experience, diverse interests, and extensive network help me weave narratives around maths, catering to individual interests, sparking curiosity and inspiring students to learn more. I place strong emphasis on empowering students to take charge of their learning, with the aim of nurturing independent learners.

Collaboration is key. Working closely with the family, I design a bespoke tutoring plan. Where appropriate, students will have access to an online workbook containing a repository of class notes, assignments, and other materials, ensuring transparency and systematic learning. This dynamic approach allows me to continually assess and adjust based on individual progress.

In closing, I firmly believe that mastery in maths has an impact far beyond one's maths education. Mathematics permeates every field of scientific endeavour, from helping explain the colours of the sunset, to the architecture of our brains, it now plays a pivotal role in all aspects of modern society, including finance, economics, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence, to name a few. I believe that prioritising one’s maths education is vital to the future prospects of an individual and the position they will play in society. But aside from utility, mathematics, when understood, is inspiring and fun. As Bertrand Russell wrote in Mysticism and Logic (1918) “Mathematics, rightly viewed, possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty".
