Hi, my name is Amr. I am a qualified lecturer and pharmacist with a PG Certificate in Learning and Teaching. My passion for teaching is reflected in my students' achievements. In 2024, 45% of my GCSE students secured grades 8-9 in Maths and Sciences, and 65% achieved grades 7-9, with some starting with a predicted grade of 4.
I have over 17 years of teaching experience as I am currently working as a lecturer. I teach Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry at KS3, GCSE and Alevel. I have experience with most of the exam boards including AQA, Edexcel and OCR. I helped a lot of students with their home schooling journey. I achieved a postgraduate certificate in learning and teaching in 2015 and I have the status of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I am a scientist and published over 50 research articles in pharmaceutical sciences and pedagogy (learning and teaching). Besides, I am a School Governor in an outstanding School who contributes at the Ofsted inspection visits.
I follow a student-centred approach. I like to introduce the topic to my pupils and then engage them in the learning process through activities and by practising questions with gradual increase in difficulties to enable them to master the topic and boost their confidence. My student-centred approach help me and the pupils to work together at a pace that suits them.
I always start by assessing the student level to identify his/her learning gaps and work on their weak topics until they master them. I build rapport with my students quickly, support and encourage them throughout their learning journey. I worked with students with different abilities including those with dyslexia, ADHD and brain injury. I adapt my teaching to suit my student needs. For those who are capable, I keep challenging them to ensure they reach their full potential.
As a passionate scientist, I run simple experiments in my lessons to help students to better understand the topic, for instance properties of matters, solubility, energy and changes in energy. Revisions and mock exams are integral part of my teaching to help students build their confidence. I also have a wide range of learning resources including online videos to facilitate students' learning as they can revisit the topic when needed.
Besides, I publish pedagogic research on students' learning approaches and feedback preferences and this helps me a lot to be up-to-date with the most recent learning and teaching literature and enables me to tailor my teaching and feedback methods as per students' needs and preferences. My approach helped students to improve their A level grades from D's to B's, and I excelled in enabling students to reach their full potential and secure A/A*.
