I have a passion for teaching and am a creative, experienced and professional English Native tutor and personal development coach. I graduated with a 2:1 Joint Honours Degree in English and Psychology from Keele University in 1990 and am a qualified Adult Education tutor and TEFL teacher. I offer private English tuition to people of all nationalities including International students and professionals living in the UK or remotely. I work with individual students and groups taking GCSE English at school or college and coach university students studying Psychology and English. I specialise in managing exam/study stress and help students of all levels to learn effective techniques to complete exams or achieve higher grades (study skills £38 an hour).
I am also a Life coach offering confidence sessions for career, life decisions and personal dreams. (From £60 an hour). I use approaches that I have gained over the last thirty years in the fields of health and education working with people of all ages and nationalities. I began my career working in the NHS as a psychologist helping individuals and running groups on confidence-building and stress management. I specialise in using relaxation and meditational approaches with guided imagery and NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) visualisation techniques to coach individuals and groups. I draw on my training in psychology and also of astrological awareness to understand personality and to further develop what motivates us or holds us back. A key strength for my English tuition or coaching is an ability to form good working relationships with learners or clients built on mutual trust and rapport.
I am available for help with preparation for exams in May and June.

I teach EFL classes and individual sessions to International students and adults of all nationalities, ages and levels. I have worked as a mentor and tutor to university and college students as well as helping secondary school pupils to pass GCSE English or make the transition from overseas to a UK school. I have tutored a range of professionals including doctors, business people, managers and journalists. I teach at annual English Language summer schools based at universities and colleges across the UK. Teachers are involved in all aspects of the summer school including administering placement tests in written and oral skills and conducting end of course tests and reports. In class the focus is on improving oral fluency and confidence in speaking as well as written work. Students learn through doing a variety of projects, role play activities and presentations. The classes are fun and relaxed with lots of laughter and students go away with more confidence in speaking. I teach ESOL classes at colleges where I have had a 98% pass rate for Adult and Young learners taking entry level ESOL exams. I have also taught IELTS preparation to classes of International students attending short courses in the UK. Contact me for an initial chat to discuss your needs and an informal language level assessment for EFL students.
Feedback from the many students has always been positive:
'It has been fantastic to meet you. The kids love you and you have been a good support for them as well as a good friend to us all. I hope to see you in Spain.'
Inma, Spanish group leader at summer school.
I have a coaching approach to tutoring which is always positive and encouraging. Students have commented that I know how to motivate them to improve and build language skills. It is important to teach confidence so that students feel relaxed and unafraid about using language. I am flexible and can adapt and tailor the lessons to what students require. Students may want to practise conversational English on a range of topics or improve pronunciation and build vocabulary related to their career or work.
'Thank you for your patience with my pronunciation. I heartily recommend you.' Javier, orthopaedic surgeon from Madrid, studying for the TOEFL examination in order to work overseas.
I use a variety of teaching materials including text books, magazine/newspaper articles, internet film clips and online grammar exercises. I can help students working towards ESOL or other exams or improve their IELTS score. I offer exam coaching for academic work at all levels.
