I am an experienced primary school teacher and have taught across the primary age range. I graduated in 1995 from Homertin College, Cambridge and have taught in a range of schools from inner city to rural village schools.
At present, I work in a special school as a TA which I love but alongside I am keen to build up a tutoring business. I am currently working with my first student and loving the opportunity to work 1:1 whereby I can tailor the lesson entirely to her needs and identify gaps in knowledge and understanding.
I really look forward to working with more students in the future!
I have a warm and friendly disposition and prioritise making children feel relaxed and secure in order to benefit the most from tuition.
I have taught primary children from Nursery through to Year 6 across a wide range of settings from inner city to rural village schools. I have a thorough understanding of the learning objectives of both the KS1 and KS2 curriculum and have often prepared children for their SATs.
I am an experienced musician and, while I have taught general class music to primary children, I would be interested in teaching the 'cello or piano to new starters. I would also be able to teach children/adults who are studying for their grade 5 theory exam.
I will do a informal initial assessment to find out where the child needs support along with discussion with the child and parents. From here I would develop a weekly program to map out what we will focus on over the coming weeks.
I always aim to make learning relevant to the individual child- I do not come with a formula. Instead I believe in finding out about the individual student and then tailor the lessons to their interests. I believe children are much more engaged this way and 1 to 1 teaching allows for this wonderful opportunity.
I also aim to make learning as active and hands on as possible. Again, this results in much higher levels of engagement which allows learning to be more successfully embedded.
At the end of a school year,a child once said to me, 'thank you for giving me back my confidence'. This, for me, was the ultimate complement I could wish for as a teacher. I hope that I can do the same for your child.
