Now retired, I was a University teacher between 1990 and 2017
My wife and I live in Kidderminster. I am happy to meet with students face-to-face in the Stourbridge/Wolverhampton/Kidderminster region, or alternatively online. Being retired means that I can be very flexible with lesson times
My subject was dentistry and the training of dentists, dental hygienists and dental therapists. But as well as being a qualified dentist, I am also a qualified educator, with a doctorate in education

Tutoring Experience

Teaching dentistry requires the teacher to work closely with individuals and small groups, much more so than delivering lectures to large student groups.
Dentistry is not a single subject but many. One of my roles was to teach cell biology, physiology and histology to first year students. I did this for 20 years, so have a good deal of experience in the teaching of human biology, as well as more dentally oriented subjects
As an educator, I am in a position to help students struggling with studying, academic writing (essays and university dissertations), exam preparation.

Tutoring Approach

Teaching should be, in the educators terminology "student-centred". That is to say the role of the teacher is to support the student in their learning journey rather than simply to dole out information. We always learn more effectively if it comes out of our own thoughts, than if it is provided by someone else.To this end my lessons are always interactive, and always aimed at pushing the student to discover something new for him/herself
We all learn in different ways, and my own learning style is very visual, using pictures, models and animated sequences to understand difficult concepts. This preference is reflected in my teaching
