I come from France (Normandy). I have lived in Surrey (between Dorking & Reigate) for many years.
As a family, we often go and stay at our Normandy farmhouse to visit friends and relatives.
I have been enjoying over 30 years of tutoring to all age groups. In my experience, students/pupils will, at first, need help rebuilding their confidence as they may be confused in a number of areas. I find that many struggle with grammar, particularly with verb tenses, and they are also self-conscious when expressing themselves. I will address all of these issues right away with them.
I am currently tutoring a number of adults, individually or in pairs. The majority want to get more confident at speaking to French people on holiday, whilst others like to maintain their fluency. I will also assist with queries/correspondence they may have regarding their French property.
It is very important to me that young people are at ease and feel relaxed with their tutor. I tailor my lessons to the level of individual student, and I structure them to include some conversation, some grammar points, some support with their homework. Nearer to their exams, I will make sure students get plenty of practice on exam techniques, using past papers. I like to give a little homework just to consolidate the areas covered. Close to their speaking exam, I will encourage students/pupils to acquire a good accent with clear pronunciation (especially if they have to do a presentation): this will raise their confidence on the day.
